We have installed has installed over 100 channels of the NUUO surveillance system for personnel and property protection for the city government of Asheville, North Carolina. After evaluating several alternatives, we helped the city IT department settle on NUUO as the most cost-effective solution for achieving a hybrid DVR/NVR recording system. Their decision was based on the premise that while analog cameras are still superior in night vision and outdoor applications, IP cameras allow for remote configuration, and their versatility should be utilized indoors at every opportunity.
NUUO Hybrid Surveillance Solution
Up to now, we have equipped three of the city Fire and Rescue substations with complete IP and often megapixel cameras for their facilities with more to come. One of the substations preferred the infra-red vision of an analog camera and converting it to MPEG-4 through the use of a Vivotek video server. The Fire and Rescue administrative workers and city police can use the remote viewer to monitor the buildings after the staff has left on an emergency. They also appreciate the ability to monitor their cars in the parking lot. We installed a hybrid system for the Parks and Recreation Department at its tennis court facility of Aston Park. Night vision analog cameras were installed outside to be used with NUUO H.264 hardware compression cards, and VIVOTEK IP cameras provide indoor surveillance. The park staff is rather small for such a large area, and they use the TV out function on their PCs video card to view the security cameras while in the pro-shop. The downtown municipal building has just upgraded its surveillance system to a 32 channel NUUO system powered by two SCB-5016 DVR cards. The city’s intention is to use CCTV cameras in the near term with the intention of upgrading the CCTV cameras to IP cameras as the budget permits. Police officers have incorporated the building’s original blueprints into NUUO’s E-Map function to make camera selection much more intuitive. They are also anxious to incorporate the digital I/O card into the access control system. This will allow them to access the smart search feature for the events that will be recorded both through access control triggers and the NUUO video recording. Unfortunately, incidents and limited police personnel prompted the city to pursue video surveillance near its neighborhood recreational centers. Previous systems were limited in their functionality, so their newest and largest project so far will be outfitted with yet another NUUO hybrid solution. Once again, the SCB-5000 series was chosen for its superior picture quality, low bandwidth requirements, low storage needs, and unsurpassed stability. We furnished the Stephens Lee Recreational Center with a total of twenty-one channels to provide complete video surveillance for the parking lot, entrances, gymnasium, classrooms, activity halls, and exercise room. Six analog channels provide complete day and night coverage for outside the building, and fifteen IP cameras, including both ACTI and VIVOTEK IP cameras, furnish the indoor surveillance. The city continues to employ NUUO solutions and plans to add the CMS (central management software) soon for central administration of the citywide recording servers.
